What is UPWARD BOUND?

                 It is a federally funded academic program for high school students.  The goal of the program is to help selected students complete high school and continue their education by entering a college of their choice.

 

 

How are students selected to participate in UPWARD BOUND?

                 We serve high school students from families who meet the federal income guidelines and/or whose parents did not receive a degree from a four year college/university in the United States.

 

 

What does UPWARD BOUND provide for my child?

                 During the school year, college prep activities and academic tutoring are available after school at Brockton High School.  College students serve as tutors and mentors. For six weeks during the summer, students live in a dorm at Bridgewater State College in Bridgewater , MA.  They take classes that will prepare them for the upcoming school year, in English, Math, Science, and Foreign Language.  In addition to the classes, student s take part in community service, recreational, educational and cultural activities. 

 

 

How long can my child be in UPWARD BOUND?

A student may be in the program from the time he/she is selected, until the summer following high school graduation.  The summer after high school graduation, there is a “Bridge Component” where students enroll in classes and may earn college credit.

 

 

How much does it cost to be in UPWARD BOUND?

There is NO COST to the students or their families.  The program pays all the costs involved in their participation.  Actually students earn money, called a stipend, while participating in the program.
